WEIGHT LOSS EXCEPTIONS AND RULES

My aim with this post is to demonstrate how the concept of exceptions & rules can and will impact on your journey, whether it be positive or negative. The choice is yours!

THE GOLFING ANALOGY – NEGATIVE OUTCOME

When an amateur golfer that is still learning golf spends time on the driving range you will find that his results will very likely vary a lot due to experimentation – a bit of a hit & miss (no pun intended 🙂 ) In this case he hasn’t yet established what the rule should look like and he is working towards finding the rule. What I mean by rule is the sequence that he has to perfect and then consistently deliver to achieve the same good result.

THE GOLFING & ARCHERY ANALOGY – POSITIVE OUTCOME

When spending some time on a driving range a pro golfer will usually try to keep every driving attempt consistent. So, each time when he drives he will use the same stance, same swing, head still & the same follow through. By doing this he will usually achieve the same result each time. By doing one of these things differently he will notice variation in his result and he will usually instantaneously know exactly what he did wrong, even before the ball lands.

Archery is the same in that if you use the same stance, same draw, same breathing & release, then you might even find that before long you will start splitting your arrows that are already in the target. If you do one of these things differently then you will notice variation and your grouping on the target will be somewhat off. He will once again know this even before the arrow hits the target.

So in some sports you will find that once an athlete perfected his or her game. It is going to be important for them to remain consistent in execution in order to reach for perfection & achieve their goals. Under delivering will definitely be the exception here. If you keep doing what you are doing & how you are doing it you will keep getting the same result. So in this case it will be positive, right!?

HOW THIS APPLIES TO OTHER AREAS OF LIFE

You will often hear someone say that they are just not achieving results. The moment this happens then most people stop with what they are doing and then try to find something else that will perhaps work better & faster. It is just a fact that the instant gratification thinking these days is just not helping here!

If you dissect their approach then you will find that there will be some areas where the ball is being dropped, causing the frustration. In some cases there is still no substitute for time as you need to go through a learning curve to finally gain the experience & be good at something. This is very much true for weight loss as it is something that takes time & patience.

Only once you find your feet will the plan take off, or at least move in a positive direction.

HOW THIS APPLIES TO YOU & WEIGHT LOSS

The main causes of obesity are overeating & a sedentary lifestyle. I am not discounting possible medical reasons for your problem such as hormonal imbalance or others, but that is exactly why I proposed you start this journey of yours with a doctor’s check-up first! In order to achieve balance you will have to consider the current “rules” at work in your life as these are habitual by now and will have to be challenged!

The answer actually lies in simple math, in that, if you are a female of a certain age & height, then there will be a prescribed amount of calories that you should be taking on a daily basis to maintain your weight. If your rule currently is to eat more than the prescribed amount of calories then you will gain weight, simple as that! If your approach to this is a bit random then your weight may fluctuate up & down and that will be seen as your rule

If your daily caloric intake is less that prescribed for your body composition then you will lose weight, simple as that! Medical reasons such as hormonal imbalance & others may affect this idea obviously. So, what you need to do here is to consider becoming more balanced in your eating habits so that you basically eat healthy most of the time and that eating cheat meals, or cheating in general should rather become the exception to the rule!

Conclusion

No one said it was going to be easy! But hey, all of these “lose weight quick products” that has no clinical trials to prove efficacy & is marketed by the weight loss industry has only cost you money this far and yielded no results, so what are your options?? Remember, I went through all of this myself. Make eating according to your body composition your rule and cheating the exception, and you will see results!
